Leather contains nutrients for mold growth, and the presence of numerous mold spores in the air, along with the leather processing and storage conditions, all contribute to mold growth and reproduction. Therefore, long-lasting antibacterial properties are essential for leather.
Antibacterial leather is primarily treated in three ways:
01. Additive Treatment (Various Special Leathers):
Similar to grit and PU synthetic leather, a small amount of long-lasting antibacterial material can be added to the adhesive or PU, followed by the original leather processing method. This produces synthetic leather with long-lasting antibacterial and anti-mold effects, thus creating antibacterial leather.
02. Additive Treatment:
During the tanning and fatliquoring processes, various chemical additives are added to leather to alter its long-lasting antibacterial and anti-mold properties, thereby enhancing its gloss or softness. At this stage, a small amount of long-lasting antibacterial material can be added in specific proportions to create antibacterial leather, giving it long-lasting antibacterial and anti-mold effects.
03. Surface Treatment Method:
This involves applying a coating to the surface of finished leather products, creating antibacterial leather with a long-lasting antibacterial and antifungal protective layer. This results in leather products made from antibacterial leather achieving excellent long-lasting antibacterial effects.
The above three methods are temporary additive treatments for different types of leather.
Organic silicone antifungal and antibacterial leather uses a combination of the first (additive treatment) and the third (surface treatment) methods, adding graphene and antibacterial agents to achieve antibacterial effects. It can resist "Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Helicobacter pylori, and Aspergillus niger," effectively preventing bacteria for more than 5 years. It has already passed antibacterial leather performance tests in automotive leather.
